Officially released in 2002, the Tippmann A-5 has already been around for over 20 years. Since its release, it has quickly become a staple for paintball players by setting the standard for reliability, customization and maintenance for all paintball markers.
The Tippmann A-5 was designed by the Tippmann family, led by Dennis Tippmann Senior, who originally made collectible miniature machine guns
However, after a change in gun laws, the company had to reinvent itself by attempting to break into the paintball market in 1986, forming Tippmann Pneumatics Incorporated.
Since then, the company has begun to manufacture high-performance, durable and affordable products. Moreover, they even claim to have built the world’s first semi-automatic and fully automatic paintball markers.
Its reliability and cost/performance ratio make it a high-end marker. With so many built-in features and customization possibilities, it adapts to all types of paintball players and on any terrain. It offers the functionality of high end paintball markers at a lower cost.
The Tippmann A-5 can take a lot of abuse because all the parts are tough. Its aluminum frame construction makes it a tough workhorse.
The A-5 is therefore very durable and moreover, it has a solid cast aluminum receiver with a high impact shock absorbing end cap.
Additionally, the grip/trigger assembly, backplate, and bottom pipe (or direct air source adapter) are held to the receiver by four thumbtacks that can be easily removed to allow easy and quick stripping on the ground.
The response trigger system is a firing mode available for the Tippmann A-5. This is a series of parts added to the marker with the aim of greatly increasing the rate of fire of the marker.
This system uses excess carbon dioxide or compressed air from the firing process to reset the trigger. When this happens, finger pressure can immediately pull the trigger back, creating a “bounce” and firing again.
This gives players the ability to shoot at fully automatic velocities.
Tippmann A-5s use a special paintball feed mechanism called the Cyclone Feed System. It is similar to electric loaders in that it increases the rate at which the paintball marker can feed balls into the chamber.
While most markers have a feed tube attached to a reservoir/magazine that either drops paintballs one at a time or force-feeds them (in the case of some magazines) into the chamber.
The Cyclone power system is a box on the right side of the marker. When the player fires, the excess gas from the firing cycle is routed to a cylinder, which contains a piston. The gas pressure pushes the piston forward, also compressing a spring which will return the piston when the gas pressure in the cylinder drops.
Some players have reported being able to reach speeds in excess of 25 bullets/second, however this requires a mechanical modification of the parts of the original cyclone which already offers a speed of 15 bullets/second.
In short, this integrated mechanical feed system makes this marker self-contained ready for the field, without the need to add a reservoir
The Tippmann A-5 is one of the most modifiable paintball markers out there. Some changes are performance improvements, while others are purely cosmetic.
Modifications available at Impact Proshop can make the A-5 look like many firearms.
Here is an example of the modifications available:
Easy to use, maintain and be customizable to your image. The Tippmann A-5 is a solid choice for everyone, both recreational and military sim paintball players
